The algebra class passed with the boys just staring. The bell rang and the male students wailed. The female teacher had already walked out, but they still followed her back to the office.
The second class was English. Maybe the male students had used up too much energy in the algebra class. Although it was only the second, they all seemed half-asleep, yawning constantly. Originally, they would already be lethargic when the English teacher spoke, but now they were really falling asleep.
The English teacher was already used to it, however, when they walked in, they discovered that the seats for this third year class 6 had been rearranged.
The whole school knew about Wu Yu Mei’s preference for allocating seats. All the other twenty or so classes were ordered by height. In Teacher Wu’s class, sorry, but if your grades are not good, then no matter how short you are, you have to sit at the back. If you are short, then figure it out yourself.
Since school began, Su Mian had been listening carefully and taking notes. She was pretty and the English teacher was quite impressed with her. Although she could not call her by name, she remembered that she used to sit in the last row. Now she was in the third row so she had improved greatly!

Spoken English was indeed Sun Ying’s strong point. Zhang Hai Yin knew that her pronunciation was not good. She had worked hard on her children’s spoken English and had specifically bought standard pronunciation tape recordings at Xinhua Bookstore. Sun Ying’s other grades were average, but she had to be good at spoken English.
Everytime Zhang Hai Ying brought Sun Ying out, everyone would praise, “This child’s spoken English is so good!” When Zhang Hai Ying heard this, she felt that she had recovered a lot of face. Yet, everyone had left some words unspoken, “Who did she learn it from?”
Seeing Sun Ying raise her hand, Zhang Hai Ying was very happy, “Student Sun Ying. Who else?”
The conversation was between three people and there needed to be two other people.
All the male students lowered their heads on the table, for fear of being called out. To read aloud with Sun Ying, wouldn’t that just be too uncomfortable? She read so well, they would struggle for a long time and still not be able to speak, and would be anxious.
No one raised their hand for a long time. Zhang Hai Ying’s expression became a little different. Just when she was about to speak, Su Ying stood up and said, “How about counting Su Mian as one of the others. This time, Su Mian was ranked 159th!”
Su Mian was happy.
She was ranked 159th overall, but her English results were not good and she had just managed to pass.
Wei Min saw that Sun Ying was pulling another trick. She tugged Su Mian’s sleeve to signal to her to not stand up. “She is definitely doing this on purpose! Who wouldn’t know that being from the countryside, our spoken English is poor and when we read it out loud, only we would understand it!”
