After finishing his morning drill, Wei Zhen Hui received Su Mian’s letter.
The first team leader thievishly handed the letter to Wei Zhen Hui as though he did not want to let go, holding it tightly, “Battalion commander, is the letter from our sister-in-law?”
The second team leader wanted to smack the first team leader, “Can’t you see, it’s written Bai County No. 1 High School. Who else could it be if it’s not sister-in-law?”
The first team leader was unhappy, “Have you forgotten, the battalion commander’s sister is also in that high school!”
The second team leader rolled his eyes, “The battalion commander’s sister only writes a letter to our battalion commander once every half a year. Now, there’s a letter every ten or so days. Let’s make a bet, if it’s not sister-in-law, I’ll call you elder brother.”
The first team leader agreed, then regretted after agreeing, “Second team leader, you’re tricking me, you already call me elder brother!”
The second team leader raised his eyebrows triumphantly, “I just wanted to tell you the truth, this letter is definitely written by sister-in-law! Don’t run, didn’t you see our battalion commander read the letter with his back facing us? Maybe our afternoon exercise training tasks will be halved again.”
During the last training, they were meant to do 400 push-ups. After reading the letter, the battalion commander was smiling all afternoon and in the end, he let them rest after 200.
The troops had not been able to believe it was true when they heard that. Their vanguard troops’ training was famous throughout the whole army. Those whose bodies were slightly subpar did not dare to come because they would be crippled from training.
Wei Zhen Hui took the letter and walked aside to open it.
He wondered what funny things his wife had written this time. There were two pages and Wei Zhen Hui read it from the beginning to the end without missing a word. However, it did not mention him at all.
Especially the words at the end: I don’t miss you!
Why did it mean ‘I don’t miss you’? They had not seen each other for so many days. He missed his wife, but his wife actually did not miss him.
Wei Zhen Hui’s thoughts spun quickly. His wife was about to marry him when she saw him the first time, so he knew that his wife was angry.
Wei Zhen Hui lit a cigarette and inhaled deeply.
The first and second team leaders were terrified. Their battalion commander rarely smoked and every time he smoked, there would be an important event. What had their sister-in-law written in her letter that made the battalion commander act like a great enemy was coming?
Then can their afternoon training be halved? Sister-in-law, please be merciful, our happiness depends on you!
Wei Zhen Hui thought about it carefully and felt that he had not offended Su Mian recently. Last time when he went to her school to give a report, it had still been fine and the two of them had even gone to the hospital together. When they parted, Su Mian had been reluctant to let him go and Wei Zhen Hui had almost brought her with him.
Could it be his letter this time that had made her angry?
Wei Zhen Hui took another puff of smoke, recalling what he had written in his mind. Thinking of this, he found the problem. In his letter, he had written about so much but had not mentioned that he missed his wife!
His little wife was holding a grudge, he knew that now.
After eating, the soldiers of the vanguard troops stood excitedly, ready to receive the battalion commander’s training orders.
During lunch, everyone had found out about how their sister-in-law had written a letter to their battalion commander. They had a tacit understanding and although the battalion commander did not make it as obvious as last time, he seemed to be in a good mood. Although he was looking at them, they knew his mind was not on them.
Is it possible that their 10km cross-country run would be reduced to 5km? Right now, they really hoped that their sister-in-law would be able to write more letters to their battalion commander in the midst of her studies, preferably one letter a day, so that they would be able to be as happy as the other troops.
“Everyone, stand at attention. 15km cross-country, run!” At Wei Zhen Hui’s order, the several team leaders’ eyes almost popped out.
Their training had increased!!! What on earth had their sister-in-law written in her letter?
