Chapter 48 Something going on (and more)

Several of the soldiers following behind them had seen the full scene of them grasping hands. All of their eyes almost popped out and fell onto the snow.

“There is definitely something going on between this M*F* captain and Su Mian!”

“Is this really the rhythm of two people who have just met?”

“They are already holding hands. Are we going to eat wedding candy?”

“Hehe! I bet the captain’s heart is blooming!”

The soldiers whispered amongst themselves in the back, covering their mouths from time to time. However, they had forgotten that voices travelled further in the wind.

Wei Zhen Hui’s solemn icy expression loosened slightly, a rare occurrence.

Su Mian’s hearing was stronger than average and she heard every single word they said.

Although she had lived for more than 50 years in her previous life, her face still flushed red all the way to the tip of her ears when the group of young soldiers made such a fuss.

Su Mian wanted to withdraw her hand and she tugged twice, but it did not move in the slightest.

Wei Zhen Hui knew that Su Mian was shy. He had not consoled anyone before so his words still came out icily, “Pay no heed to the brats talking nonsense. The mountain roads are difficult to walk. If I let go, you will fall and smash into smithereens.”

Hearing this, Su Mian glanced towards the side of the mountain road and her legs trembled in fright. Next to her, there was a mountain stream whose bottom could not be seen, not like the large soil slope back at home.

“Look.” Wei Zhen Hui pointed backwards with his left hand, “The mountain road is narrow and slippery. They are also walking while holding onto each other in pairs.

Su Mian looked back and found that there was a wooden stick between the two rows of soldiers as they walked side by side.

So that was how it was, these people were too mean.

Su Mian stuck her tongue out and quickly walked a few steps to catch up to Wei Zhen Hui, no longer feeling awkward.

“Who did you learn traditional Chinese medicine from?” Wei Zhen Hui asked suddenly. He had, in fact, been suspicious for a while now. The Su family had been farmers for several generations and throughout Apricot Village, there had not been a traditional Chinese medicine doctor for many years.

Su Mian did not want to hide it from him, but it was not the right time yet. She would tell him everything about her when she had the chance to do so in the future, but it would not be now.

“I am preparing to take the exam for the Military Medical University, so I went to the library and borrowed some medical books to read.” Su Mian told the truth, she just did not tell him about the time period. If Wei Zhen Hui knew that she could diagnose and treat people within just one month of reading medical books, he would definitely see her as a monster.

As expected, Wei Zhen Hui’s attention was diverted. “You want to take the Military Medical University exam, to prepare for joining the army?”

“Mhmm.” Su Mian nodded vigorously, her gaze incomparably firm.

She wanted to fight shoulder to shoulder with him, to stand on the place closest to him, to see him in high spirits, and to be by his side when he needed it the most.

Wei Zhen Hui stood still, then turned around and patted her head, “Girl, keep it up.” For some unknown reason, when he heard that she was going to join the army, he unexpectedly felt ripples in his heart that had been calm and waveless for many years.

The person in front of her was the one she thought about day and night. Her head was warm from his palm and hearing him call her “girl”, Su Mian’s eyes almost reddened.

She was regretful. In her previous life, she should not have doubted his feelings for her and should not have married Jiang Yi in a fit of anger. She should not have allowed her temper to push him further and further away.

“Wei Zhen Hui, I will!” Su Mian’s round eyes were like two crescent moons, shining brightly as she gave him a standard military salute.

Wei Zhen Hui!

Wei Zhen Hui!

Wei Zhen Hui!

From memory, it seemed like someone had called him like that before.

He felt a sharp pain in his heart and it hurt so much that he could not help but clutch his chest.

Wei Zhen Hui turned back, the piercing north wind blowing away the wetness in his eyes.

“Why are you not walking?” Holding onto his hand, Su Mian had already taken two steps past him and was standing in front, looking down at him.
