Blood began fiercely gushing from Nick’s left shoulder, and his left arm dropped to the ground, lifeless.
At this moment, however, this was not enough to pause Nick’s actions. He commenced the healing spell on his left shoulder; his arm lying on the ground.
According to the System’s directions, Nick had no choice but to cut off his left arm from his shoulder. This had to be done so that the poison would not spread to the rest of his body or his organs, creating more severe nerve damage or an even worse outcome.
He cast the healing spell without delay, concentrating so much that even his tears had already dried up. Ten minutes later, by when the fatigue had hit him, he stopped. He then used the leather papers to bandage his left shoulder and stood up from the ground.
“I had never expected that I would be an amputee in this new life of mine.”
Nick used his right hand to pick up his left arm. In almost a ceremonial way, he looked at his lifeless left arm that was no longer a part of his being for a few seconds. He then placed it on the ground and dug a small hole for it.
Once he was done, he buried his separated left arm and covered it with dirt. This gesture had no other meaning apart from being symbolic.
“I need to move on, find a safe place, and hone my magical capabilities before proceeding with my plan.”
Nick opened his eyes with some determination of a new life and began walking. Along the way, he did not forget to keep searching for a place to hide and work.
The sun was already hiding away from animals and humans alike. The true dangerous side of the woods was coming to life, as both nocturnal and hunter animals started seeking out their prey.
Many things would change in just three hours. Before that, Nick had to find a place for himself.
“If I was not a street boy before I came to this world, I could not have handled being an amputee for the time being.”
He muttered to himself. There were many thoughts racing through his mind. Much had happened with him in a short span of time. He was chased by a strong magical family, he had lost an arm literally, and he had no human, or any other creature for that matter, to trust. His losses were stacking up fast.
The loss of his left arm had left his power and his mind crushed. Even in this, however, the fact that he could still walk was an indication of the hope he had for a new life. This in itself was a good and important thing.
Very soon, Nick once again came across something weird. A figure of some kind was ahead of him. Just as Nick looked at this ‘figure’, this figure too turned its head and looked back at Nick, without any hesitation.
The creature that Nick was looking at was some kind of a bunny and human hybrid.
It stood on it is two hind legs that were long and thin but muscular, very similar to human limbs. Its arms were like humans too.
It would not be wrong to say that it reminded Nick of Bugs Bunny, a cartoon character from Earth.
The creature tilted its head and said.
“It seems that you have never seen a ‘Werfur’ in your life. And you have had to cut your arm so that the poison would not kill you.”
Nick gulped. He did not expect this creature to talk at all. Nick referred to the creature as a ‘he’ in his mind because of his voice. The ‘Werfur’, that the creature called itself, must be an intelligent race, probably with an intelligence level similar to that of humans. Nick answered.
“I have run into some problems with the humans on Blue Tear City. Will you help me?”
The Werfur thought a little and nodded. He started speaking.
“I am Rabial Wever, a mage of Werfur Race and connected to Anderium Forest Werfur Base. I will help you, come with me.”
Nick nodded and started following Rabial. The reason why he trusted this creature was simple. He could feel the crushing magical energy emanating from him. If this Werfur needed to capture or kill Nick, it did not need to resort to any kind of trickery.
Simply said, if this ‘bunny’ wanted Nick to be his slave, he could just do it. Nick was painfully aware that the current him had no power to stop this creature at all.
As Nick walked side-by-side with Rabial, the creature looked at him and asked.
“I would presume you are not an official mage and most likely a slave who discovered the power of magic.”
Nick looked at Rabial again with an expression that was similar to shock. He did not know how this creature knew so much just by looking at him.
“Is he reading my mind using some kind of a spell?”
Rabial noticed the difference in Nick and said in a more amused tone.
“It is not that I am using any kind of a spell. I am just an experienced mage and I know how to think and talk. You are the one who is showing me things with your behavior and your eyes.”
Nick took a deep breath and closed his eyes, not daring to say anything more. About 20 minutes later, they came to a land without any trees. The land was flat, and Nick did not know what Rabial was thinking.
Rabial concentrated magical energy in his hand and tapped on the ground. As soon as he did this, a hatch opened up. Rabial started talking again as he entered underground from this hatch.
“This is how we enter the Werfur Base – Anderium Forest. Keep this a secret, will you?”
Just as the words fell, the Werfur had vanished.
Nick took a deep breath and put his feet on the hatch. Almost instantly, he lost his mind for about two seconds like he had fallen asleep.
After he opened his eyes, he noticed that he was sitting on a chair. There were four different individuals sitting in front of him. The room was pure black, and the only thing Nick could see were the faces of Werfur Race beings.
Nick noticed that Rabial was there too. They looked at him for about five to six seconds and asked.
“So, please tell us more about yourself, and who you are, before we let you enter our base.”
