He kept his rage inside him as he checked his balance. As he expected, they duped him here as well. There was of course a few donations from the people on his private channel, but he got nothing from the group donations.
He sighed and decided to do his usual thing before going to bed.
The next day, when the young man checked his mail, he read about the patch notice.
It was a simple security patch, so he didn’t mind it too much, and only skimmed it.
He then looked at some of the mail he got after he went to bed.
From the company that handles Sword Kingdom, it was labeled compensation.
Dear player KMega,
We, of the Green corporation, would like to apologize for our oversight in our security measures. Recently, we applied a patch to fix this problem, but you, among others, have been found to be victims of fraudulent people using illegal hacks and cheats.
In the future, a large scale class action lawsuit will follow these individuals, and any damages you have received will be reimbursed. In the meantime, we of the Green corporation will ask for your patience in this endeavor. In compensation, we have credited your account six months of paid service and rental fees. The ramifications of the patch was much larger than Weise predicted.
Something manipulated the system and it overcompensated, taking this as an attack on it by a hacker. It took immediate and extreme countermeasures, and it exposed tens of Green employees exploiting the systems for personal gain, and even one executive of fraud.
As the Green corporation was one of the largest vr companies in the world, they had ties back to the major vr boom of 2035. It’s a well known name, and it was a scandal of untold proportions. Hundreds of millions of coin were stolen from the corporation and the players it cliented over the years. However, to those of the outside, they may never know about the scale of the earthquake that shook the foundation of the company for years to come, only what little content was added to the attachment that most people ignored.
KMega was surprised about the details of the amount he’s been scammed over the ten years he’s been a streamer2streamerstory mechanic. As an individual, he’s played Green corporation game all that time.
When he saw that the amount that was stolen from him equalled tens of thousands of coins, he was in disbelief. However, he knew that this was a large scale lawsuit, and those took years to settle. He saved the mail and attachment to a separate independent drive before looking over his accounting book again. With his fees waived for the next few months, he might actually be able to afford real food again.
First things first though, he paid his bills with the donations he got.
Afterwards, he kept the leftover money and put it into a side account for his taxes.
