Eden Virus 39: Intermission

The beat of his heart was so loud he could barely hear his own stomping footsteps nor the hard panting of the limited air arriving and escaping from his mouth. Even without being able to feel anything he could tell his body was rebelling against him. The noisy crackling of his limp left arm and the tearing of muscles from his legs as he ran, only when he had reached his limit did he understood no matter whether he felt it or not he could not win against his own body in such a struggle.

“Oof!”

“Oww!!”

His vision saw the ground, as did his entire big body when he fell over. Takuya that was under his arm flew off and tumbled like a log, equally limp and unmoving even as he landed with a hard thud.

“D-dammit.” The president cursed as he lay there, noisily gasping for breath with his entire body completely paralyzed. He scanned the horizon with what limited movements he could still muster to see how far they have gone, the sight of the giant creature a mere speck from his location. Was it enough? He did not even know.

“Damn that metadata bastard. Was this his plan as well? To take us with him at the end?” Came Takuya’s voice, his body lying just further away. “Not enough. This is not enough Prez!”

“What?!”

Dear Readers. Scrapers have recently been devasting our views. At this rate, the site (creativenovels .com) might...let's just hope it doesn't come to that. If you are reading on a scraper site. Please don't.

“If you can hear me, you should know I calculated the amount of distance needed to escape the blast radius. Hell, it’s not even needed to be calculated if what I think will happen is to come. It’s impossible to get away from it by human footing, whether it be you or me. That asshole…senpai, he should have known this from the start! Yet he still did it!” Takuya exclaimed. He was struggling to get up but his body also did not respond even as he tried to move his head to at least be able to look at Kenjirou’s confused face.

“He omitted explaining key information when he showed us his data. That monster, she can expel outside elements. I read it when I looked through the data again but he electrocuted me before I was given a chance to speak. This includes things like explosions, even if it was done from inside her body. Just magnetizing and then hoping to detonate won’t be enough, at least not from the usual way he explode his devices.”

“Then, what is he hoping to do? Mitsuhide…” Kenjirou grunted, trying everything he can to move but hearing only silence told him nothing happened. Takuya, who tried the same but with equal results, was finally able to lock eyes with the club president’s. There was a strange smile laid across his face, but it was impossible to tell if it was from humor or had he lost his mind.

“That bastard…he’s attempting a gambit. The magnetization on that monster’s body was not just to make it so she would be full of electricity but as a way to store enough volatile energy. Prez…senpai once showed me the design of that electric battery launcher of his. In theory, him being something of energy in human form, makes him the most dangerous of us all. He says that he would be in danger if he ever jump into a stream of electric currents, but it’s way worse than that. Much, much worse.”

“What are you talking about, Hideyoshi? Where are you going with this?”

“Ah, sorry. I forgot that such things like advance nuclear physics and thermodynamics aren’t something most normal people would delve into. Ha ha…” He chuckled as he saw the club president’s eyes widen.

“W-WHAT?!”

“Senpai is energy, but energy isn’t something that’s just magically there. Him taking a form means that he has to have a basis, or at least some substance to keep him as himself. Before, I…spoke with him about what might happen if he is to try to take a step into the electric currents. Well, we theorized anyway. In the end he took it as that weird analogy of the stores and highways, but that’s just a really abridged outlook. Senpai wouldn’t get run over, like he’d implied. The reality would be that he’d be swept along with the currents, at best, or at worse…”

“Hideyoshi, please spare me the science. Just tell me what in the world is going to happen to him!” Kenjirou growled, growing impatient at his underclassmen.

“He’s going to use his body as a reactant, if I have to hazard a guess. Mitsuhide-senpai, he’s not stupid enough to believe just a normal explosion could harm that thing but…” Takuya sighed. “He might just be stupid enough to try something on a grander scale. A much grander and more terrible attempt. I knew something was wrong when he was so calm and creepy. God dammit.”

“Senpai as energy, in theory, can also take in energy. I don’t know his limits, since he’s so touchy about that subject, but unless it’s infinite, it is impossible for him store them said energy for long since electric currents move too fast and extreme. The worse would be him taking the massive amount of energy from the currents and then…”

At that moment, Kenjirou finally understood. “No…!!!”

KABOOOOOOOM

An incredible detonation, so loud it caused the entire world to go completely silent. From the far distance where the enemy of the A.R.C stood came a flash of blinding light that reached so far into the sky it looks as if a knife cutting the world in twain.

“Senpai, you really are a-“

It was the last thing he heard from his younger club member before the quick sound of spurting liquid, then a ringing, and then silence. The incredible light turned his vision pure white, like a blindfold slapped across his eyes, but not before he was able to witness both his and Takuya’s body being swept off the ground like origami papers to a fierce hurricane. In his mind, and so he must have as well, Kenjirou was screaming but it only added to the silence as the whole world was engulfed in melting black and red.

And he could not feel any of it.
